MITCHELL REDCLOUD, Jr.
Mitchell Red Cloud, Jr. was born in 1924 near Hatfield, Wisconsin. He attended Komensky and Clay Elementary schools and was a student at Black River Falls High School from 1939-41. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1941 and fought in the Pacific Theater during the Second World War. He received his discharge from the military in 1945, but re-enlisted in the US Army in 1949. In January of 1950, RedCloud received his diploma from BRFHS after completing his education in the military. In November of 1950, Corporal Red Cloud was killed in the area of Chonghyon, North Korea while holding off a contingent of Chinese Communist forces long enough for his company to consolidate its position and evacuate the wounded. For his "dauntless courage and gallant self-sacrifice," President Harry S Truman posthumously awarded Corporal RedCloud the Medal of Honor in July of 1951. Nellie Red Cloud, Mitchell's mother, received the Medal from Omar Bradley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
